I'll add, because I love nitpicking and disagreeing, that to experience the album unconditionally (allowing for no space to come between you and the album) is to personally experience the mood. Of course, you'd have to be the first to be in this mood to create the album, but the creation of it is purposely to infect another with that mood, to transmit it. You're quite a courteous one. Now that's an interesting way of looking at it. Personally, I find Amnesiac to be a 'We went through this so you don't have to' sort of record, and while it certainly does send me to quite a dark, melancholic place, I would describe it more of an experience by proxy - through the music, not because of it (if that makes any sense.) - which is what I meant by it being cathartic.
